I think that last quote is really cool and applies to anything life threatening, but I like it a lot considering my goal of joining the Army Special Forces after I graduate.
Good luck with that.

thanks. its definatley going to take some hard work considering the strict requirements but i am confident and motivated

There appears to be some miscommunication here...

I wasnt sure if epoch's post was sarcastic, but I decided to assume that he is a nice guy and that he was being supportive rather than an asshole
I'm a bit of both, considering that I was in the military and I understand the requirements of SF.

Good luck with that.

I probably should have left this one alone.Tongue

Epoch (along with a few others) tend to act as informal "gate keepers" if you will, for new members. You know, giving their do hazing and what not...

Yes sir. Although a bit somber, I have always liked this one because of its honest and self effacing nature.

Everybody knows who said that!

I recognized the quote, but didn't know who'd made it.

Looked it up: Edward Whymper. The first to climb the Matterhorn. Very nast accident on the way down. More from Wikipedia

"...Philistines may think that we were madmen indeed to go through such suffering and danger to arrive at this lonely spot. What did you hope to find there, they may ask. Glory? Nobody cares about young fools who waste their best years in meaningless combats far from the eyes of the world. Fortune? Our clothes were in rags and next day we would go back down to a life of slaving for the barest essentials. What we sought was the unbounded and essential joy that boils in the heart and penetrates every fibre of our being when, after long hours skirting the borders of death, we can again hug life to us with all our strength...."
