Is the New a decent destination in march? Work is sending me to DC the week of the 4th and I'm wondering if I should stay the weekend and try to get out and climb. If it is decent, anyone from DC want to drive out late march 6th or early marth 7th and spend a three day weekend at the new?

NRG can certainly be pleasant in March, or conversely miserable. I was there over the first weekend of March last year, and we had a couple days of 55 degrees before much cold rain moved in. Don't get your hopes up to high, to put it simply.

I once read somewhere on this site "If you listen to the weatherman, you'll never climb at the New." Which can be very true. Some of my favorite days were the days I woke up and thought it was going to be miserable.

It has been ridiculously mild this winter out here, I would say worth the drive from DC, plenty of rainy day climbs to take advantage of, or you can always paddle if its raining too. Plenty of guide services if you can’t find any one to climb with, Seneca is also an option. Lex

I would think Seneca would be colder than the New. Whenever I tried to plan early season trips to Seneca, the weather forecasts are usually a bit colder than forecasts for the New. But, as someone else put it, if you listen to the weatherman, you'll never climb there. Of course, im not from that neck of the woods, so I wouldnt really know anyway.

I'm from Philly, but I'll be taking the train down to DC for work on the 6th. I was at Seneca in February and it was great- we had the place to ourselves. I've only been to the new once, but I have the guidebook and I'd love to go again.
