Add in just about any bouldering movie I've seen.
And King Lines.

I'd rate them by how motivated they personally got me, as well as the quality of the climbers and climbs contained within.

By that criteria, i would list "FUSE. a film by joe inurato" as the worst i've seen. The "special appearance" by fred nicole, is actually just fred talking about why he likes heuco.

A huge disappointment.

I agree for the most part although watching some of Heuco's hardest problems get sent in Best of the West was pretty cool.

Soul Cal is pretty damn lame.

Hueco footage is some of the rare bouldering stuff that I enjoy. Every once in awhile I see a snipit of something that I like, but I don't really get much out of an entire video of it.

If you had an interest in E11 then I would suggest First Ascent. The footage and soundtrack are both some of the best I have ever seen/heard, but the real strength is that it somewhat goes beyond the typical "look at him he climbs really hard" type of film. There is some of that for sure but other elements are brought up, things like ethics, the importance of trad climibng etc. The Timmy O'Neil segments suck but other than that it is hands down the best climbing film I have ever seen.

My favorites (in order):

1. Dosage III: Really well put together, good mix of different styles, areas, and climbers. I particularly enjoyed Dave Graham's Ticino section. Oh, and Sharma on Witness the Fitness is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.
2. Rampage: The best bouldering film I've seen.
3. Dosage IV: If only for the Tommy Caldwell section.
4. Pilgrimage: Inspiring. Inspired me to take a Hampi trip. Amazing place, just stay away from the tourist areas.
5. King Lines: Not your typical climbing film. Less emphasis on spray or more on the thrill of traveling and seeking out new climbs. I enjoyed it nonetheless.
6. Free Hueco: Gives you a great impression of life at Hueco in the 90s. Good stuff, hard climbing.
7. Masters of Stone V: Just for the Dan Osman montage.

Uncommon Ground, IMO, is better than any others mentioned. I may be biased, because it is about Northeastern climbing, but it is just plain awesome. First Ascent is my second favorite.

are we talking about good videos, or bad videos?

The more I watch Peter Mortimer's movies, the more I realize they are Boulder, CO, circle jerks. blaa. Cedar Wright and Timmy O'Neill are fucking annoying.

DaliLama... tell me you were joking with that list? maybe try expanding your brain past films about north american climbers... Rampage?? come on.

I suggest finding a copy of "Forte", not your typical bouldering video, no bad techno, and absolutely no "duuuuuudes"

although incredibly cheesy "The Real Thing" was a fantastic film at the time...

Oh I'm sorry Quentin, I didn't realize I was supposed to fabricate some pretentious list of the most artistic climbing films no one's ever seen.

pretentious? right. so you clearly haven't seen it then... can you even define pretentious?

i never said the film was artistic, i merely suggested it did not follow the normal climbing film script, dude.

the Real Thing is very well known... bad, but well known.

Potter is not featured in any of Mortimer's movies, though. But, yes, I think he is annoying, too.

Actually, his ascent of the Tombstone is featured in First Ascents or Return to Sender, I forget which. I find him annoying too, but the footage is pretty rad.

My personal list (based on entertainment value) is:

Hard Grit, Front Range Freaks, Free Hueco, and Return to Sender.

Persoanlly though, i think that climbing doesn't really lend itself that well to film, as a media. If you're not a climber, anything but big falls is pretty boring to watch. Surfing, Skiing and Kayaking movies are cooler.
