Today I received my shiny new #3(orange) master cam and I'm very pleased with the design. The head width is the same if not a hair bit smaller than Aliens, and the #2 and below are suppose to be much narrower. The trigger mechanism is not nearly as bulky as I thought it would be and still allows for a little "floppyness" like the Aliens. The trigger action is smooth but, the Aliens are a little smoother. The entire construction of this thing is extremely burly and will obviously be strong enough to take a beating. Overall a great product from Metolius and I can hardly wait to get outside with it.

how is the weight on them, and by not smooth you mean the trigger action isnt as fluid as the aliens?

When you get it out in the real world, check back in and let us know what kind of rock you have and how the grip compares to the Aliens -OK?

The trigger system is metal on metal so it doesn't have the super smooth feel of the aliens, but feels just fine. As for how it grips the lobes are made of the same aluminum that all other metolius cams are and they all seem to grab great. The aliens offer a very bomber feel because of the soft material used in the lobes.

writing a gear review would be a more valuable method of getting the info out. perhaps you want to wait until you used them before writing that though.

they're crap. I thought they would be good but the trigger will not move if the stem is even slightly bent or pressured in the direction of the crack.. They need to re-do the trigger mechanism before i'm convinced.

Wow. Good news. I hope Metolius is listening... Have you dropped them a line about this?

Went down to the valley this weekend and got the chance to place the #3 mastercam several times. It goes in total bomber and fits in some pretty shallow cracks, my only complaint is when the stem is slightly tweaked it is tricky to remove (they need to use the Alien style metal sheath). The build quality on this cam is absolutely bomber and I will continue to place it every chance I get because it's like clipping a bolt. A few tweaks and this will be the "MasterCam".

I believe there is a CCH patent that, at the moment, is the issue with simply replicating or improving on the trigger sleeve.
