Hey. I just moved to Spearfish from Coeur d'Alene, ID and I'm looking for some people to climb with. I'm really all about the experience, I have no idea what grade of climbs I usually do. I'm just out there to have a good time and enjoy the beauty this area has to offer.

Lucky you! You have climbing right out of town in the Canyon and the rest of the Hills not far away. Not to mention the Tower an hour away. There has to be a pretty good climbing community in the area. You should check out the Black Hills website for people to climb with. http://www.bhclimbers.com/ Frank Sanders knows Devils Tower like the back of his hand and might be able to steer you towards some people to climb with there. I think he still plays piano at Romas on Friday nights. He can also be reached at http://www.devilstowerclimbing.com His day job is guiding on the Tower.

Yes, Frank can probably help out with finding climbing partners. He still plays at Roma's, but on Saturday nights. If you're looking to climb Devil's Tower, he's the best guide around. I don't live here, but spend a lot of time here (in the Black Hills), and I'm always looking for climbing partners. I have pretty much all the gear needed for top-roping (I usually solo TR for lack of a partner), and probably enough for a bit of trad and sport. I'm in the area until May 1. I need to go back to Wisconsin to help my students finish up their Independent Study projects, but will be back out here again by June 1, and will be staying in the area until late August. I climb for fun, and don't do stuff that's really hard, but would love to get together for a climb. PM me if you're interested (and that means anyone whoes interested). I live in an RV, so am pretty free to go and stay wherever I want. Have been living at Frank's for the past couple weeks, but have moved down into Spearfish Canyon now, and will stay in this area for a while, then back to the Tower to get in some good crack climbing before heading back to Wisconsin. I'd be glad to pick you up any time for climbing, and could climb with you, either in the needles, or would be willing to take you to the Tower for some climbing there. And welcome to the coolest area in the country! Hope you end up loving it as much as I do!

I will be traveling across country in July and would love to do the tower on the way out. The funny part is that I lived in Wyoming for two years right next to vedavoo and medicine bow but it took me moving to Vermont to take up rock climbing. I have a small rack (cams / nuts) and all the necessities. Will definitely be belay slave just to get a chance to climb. PM me if you know of anybody who would be up for this.

Defiantly stop at the Tower even if you don't have someone lined up. Talk to the Climbing Ranger and or Frank and they might be able to steer you towards someone else looking for a partner. I spent a couple weeks out there and always had people to climb with. Half of them were just people blowing through taking a look and hoping to find someone else to do a route with.
