Absolutely - everybody has the right to change their mind. But there's a difference between sheepishly admitting, hey guys, I still want to play, and calling your boss an idiot on national television because he didn't cater to your first demand. Had Brett so much as acknowledged what a tough spot he was putting the organization (not to mention Aaron Rodgers) in, even today after everything else, he would probably have a ton of supporters who felt their prayers have been answered. It's not the comeback wishes; it's the lack of tact and grace with which they were expressed.
The thing that made Brett Favre an icon is the perceived selflessness on his part, of being an outstanding team player and mentor for almost 2 decades. Whiny-little-diva-with-a-god-complex is much less becoming.
