Mildew on gear: Retire/Resling?

In the middle of moving, I neglected to waterproof my truck cap properly. Of course in New England this year it's raining like crazy, and my gear got wet, and sat for a couple of days.

Everything is dry, now, but some slings have a faint smell of mildew. My ropes don't have much of the smell. Luckily my choice rack and one of our ropes was in my wife's trunk........

So, has anyone seen anything on mildew's effect on gear?

Wow, what a good question. Possibly one of the few questions that hasn't been asked, and I could imagine it could damage it...
Maybe post in the strength testing thread and send one off to get obliterated?

Mildew on equipment would not affect the end strength rating UNLESS is has been caused by some form of refrigerant coolant, frozen ice pack, cat urine and that type of thing. Of course the strength of a piece of nylon material can be reduced if exposed to prolonged moisture and heat.
The mildew would have been caused by the warmth of the back of the vehicle combined with the water (Humidity).
I would suggest you wash all materials in clean water, use a NEUTRAL soap like LUX Flakes or a rope wash.
Hang to dry in the sun for a small period of time but not confined to inside a garage, house or box otherwise you will get the same result.
By using the neutral soap it will remove the smell and remove odors associated within the material.
All of this depends on the amount of time it has been exposed to these conditions.

Dan Osman left this world on the end of a rope that broke after apparently being left to the elements ( a damp cave or something if I remember) for an extended period. Of course the rope could have snapped because of the crazy jump he used it for before his last one... but I wouldn't take chances, not with this hobby

Throw all your gear out as punishment for mistreating it.

Slightly funk details, but yeah. Send 'em to vegastradguy to explode.
