Does a long version of the Grivel super asymmetrical center bar exist?
I have asymmetrical boots, and a set of G14's with the asymmetrical bar. It's not long enough.
By like 2 fucking clicks it's not long enough, and I can't seem to find a long version of the asymmetric bar anywhere on the net - not even Grivel's website says they exist. So WTF? I love grivel, their stuff rocks, do they not love me back? can I actually not physically possibly get a crampon that will fit my big asymmetric boot?
It looks like the other companies have similar issues, with BD being the only folk who do a long asymmetric bar.
And I've just been fucking around and the BD bars don't fit into the grivel crampons.
So I'm fucked? Is that what this is? Guys with big feet don't get to use the shiny new kit, that's for "normal" sized folk only?
fuck's sake.

Can you just bolt two of the bars together?
Should maintain the arc of the bar, plus with all those holes you should be able to put in two bolts per bar.
I have a pair of G-14s and wear a size 11.5/46,man you must have some really big'uns!

I actually have a pair of long ones I mistakenly bought for my G14. How about this, you come down to Ouray and we'll trade?

If I can't get something sorted then we'll trade.
If I do get something sorted you can have the shorter ones =)

Is there an option on those to move the front bail forward or backwards?

I had to send back my Rambo IV's for similar reasoning. They barely even fit Rebecca's boots very well. They were just to small all the way around.

If you are talking about the G14 in general, yes, you can make one adjustment on the bail position, which may or may not be enough for your boots. It's quite hard to do in the field though.

Yeah, they are. That's why I'm so gutted- I was so up about getting them (really nice) then when I went to put them on the boot...
You can't move the GSB forward or backward.

I think you have 3 or 4 options magnus.

-Call Grivel directly and see what they can do for you.

-Make another brand's center-bar work

-Have one made, seriously. I've had crampons repaired and heat treated at shops when warentee was not an option. Consider it, you may get more of what your wanting that route. A good shop will be able to use the same steel, and heat treat it properly for the application.

or

-Cut your toes and get shorter boots.

I wish I could do that last one. They don't do much good, they just get cold, and it would give me shorter levers to reduce the epic calf pump I get from high heeling too much.

My plan is to make another company's bar work - Grivel doesn't make what I'm looking for. I've found that BD's bars are almost the exact same but a little thicker- the plan is to take a file/grinder to a BD bar.

Could you just file the slot the bar fits into instead?

I see.

It would probably be a lot less metal to remove though. Less metal would make less filing even if it is awkward.

Have fun.

True, but if my plan works there won't be too much to file. If it does suck then I'll file the other bit - but I'm still going to pretend I was right. Tongue

but if you mess up the bar you can get another without too much trouble, mess up the slot...more problematic$$

You know if you just had one made custom you wouldn't have to file the bar 2 to 3 hours per evening for the next 2 and a half weeks... You realize this right?
