Hey, just wondering what types clothing everyone climbs in. Is there a certain material or style that works best for you? Do you boulder, sport, trad?
I typically climb in a thermal if its cold out. Keeps the core temp up, leaves the hands free, and doesn't risk snagging too easily because it's tight fitting.
I'm just trying to get some info for an entrepreneurship class project. Any input is appreciated. thanks!

Trad but only in dry weather, not winter wet weather or too cold, I hate the cold, only as my hands suffer mostly when too cold.
I like Mountain Hardware clothing the best, from all I've seen so far, stylish clothing but not only that, the climbing pants I got there are really comfortable, love them. 85% elastane, 15% nylon, stone colour.
Tops I wear lycra T, that absorbs any sweat, 90% polyamide, 10% elastane. Generally I don't wear anything warmer as I don't climb in the cold anyway, plus I tend to get hot working out.

anything that i can move in that's correct for the temperature. I try to avoid cotton but then again I avoid cotton all the time because I never have that many clothes and cotton gets stinky.

If it's cool, Merino wool base and/or layers - from either Icebreaker, Chalky Digits, or Kathmandu (the brand, not the place). I recently bought a very thin Softshell from Lowe Alpine, that makes a great outer layer in fine weather.
In summer I wear these old "Cordless" climbing shorts - don't even know if the company still exists.
IMO, the vast majority of "climbing" oriented pants/trousers SUCK A$$. either they are so technical they make you look like an alpine climbing geek, or they are for the "bouldering" crew.
My favourite cragging and day climbing pants are Chalky Digits "Prime Canvas Pants", But unfortunately I only know one place outside of NZ where you can buy Chalky digits clothes.
If you nail the "good for climbing but look good also" market, then you will make a million dollars.

When it's hot: Prana Mojo Shorts and an Ice Breaker top.
When it's not: Mountain Hardware Mesa Pants, and a warmer Ice Breaker top.
If you haven't heard of Ice Breaker before, check it out. Their stuff isn't cheap, but its simply the most comfortable layer for the top half of the body that you can buy.

Somehow I think this thread is related to the "how old are you" poll. In the summer I wear carthart shorts, my favorite green pair and any old shirt I have handy; in the cooler months I wear jeans, specifically Wrangler carpenter pants and whatever layers of shirts the temps dictate. I usually do not wear wicking clothing because I want to have the cotton to wipe my hands on, really. I'll admit I do own a pair of prana pants that I wear to the gym, just so I can fit in with the namedropping crowd...

whatever is in the pile next to my bed, i try to grab synth clothes if i'm going to be hiking in but if it's roadside cragging i don't care if i've got cotton on.

climbing specific clothes are rediculously expensive, and I don't climb hard enough that they would make a difference. even if i did i wouldnt want to look like a yuppie goober, so jeans and a t-shirt (or whatever i happen to have on).

Whatever's on the clearance rack when REI runs their super-clearance sale. An additional 50% off the already discounted price usually puts a bunch of prana, mountain hardwear, north face, kuhl, and whatever other flavor-of-the-week clothes have gone out of style within the price range of the wal-mart cargos i used to rock.
The only difference is, I can get up more than two climbs before the REI clearance bin shit has a hole in the crotch.
Oh and I've recently become a huge fan of merino wool. The last time I wore wool was those awful scratchy sweaters when I was a kid, but this new shit is amazing. I'm a stinky motherfucker and merino keeps my funk to a minimum.

That's pretty much it for me. If I'm cragging and it's not painfully hot or cold, it's a pair of comfortable non-technical shorts/pants, and usually a cotton t-shirt.
For longer approaches, multiple pitches, or depending upon the temps, the technical clothing is more likely to come out. I have a light-weight pair of Royal Robbins shorts I bought on a climbing trip when my cotton cargo shorts were weighing me down. I also have a few wicking t-shirts from REI. I don't really dig them, but I have a pair of technical pants for climbing late in the season. Cost and fit are the biggest factors.
I really don't understand the climbing-specific, non-technical clothing. I'm looking at you, Prana. I can't see dropping $75 on a pair of cotton pants or $37 on a pair of elastic cotton shorts. YMMV.

Yep. New carhartts are fine too, so long as you buy them a couple of waist sizes too big (I depend on a belt). That way, they give a little, be it in the middle of a heel hook, or just after thanksgiving dinner.
other. Long sleeves almost 100% of the time. Climb shirtless and eventually come to regret it. You'll see.

Currently I am climbing in my fleece lined carhart pants (they arent really carhart, just the same material) and a thermal shirt and fleece headband. It is friggin' cold in Idaho! In the warmer months, I climb in my jeans and a cotton t-shirt. I have a bunch of synthetic and merino wool stuff, but I don't want to ruin them rock climbing. I save that stuff for skiing. . . unless I am climbing something big, then I wear the fancy boy stuff.
