Anyone ever been there (Hospital Rock)? Is the rock any good? Fun routes? The name sounds a bit intimidating.

Actually, the climbing isnt really great there. There is one route that is 15 ft high with bolts at the top. Not really worth it. The guidebook is impossible to find for sequoia/kings canyon. What level of climber are you, and do you climb trad?

I have the Vernon guide, and have climbed at most all of the major formations in Seq/Kings that don't require a 10+ mi. In reply to: hike, including Charlotte Dome. But I pass by that stupid cliff every time and always wonder if maybe I'm missing out. But I guess I'm not! Thanks!

There are three or four different areas to climb here. There is a 3 pitch climb that is easy (5.7ish) on the far right at the lunchbox ledge. Drive past the Hospital rock parking area and park in the first obvious pullout on the right. Walk straight up the hill toward the rock (bad approach, no trail, lots of slippery oak leaves. WATCH FOR POISON OAK) There are numerous bolted routes around the area, and tons of easy trad possibilities. Ask around the rangers, a few of the climbing rangers are climbers and have fun up there.
