No one is suggesting a rewrite of Freedom of the Hills on a new way to rap.

It's like the rapping on a few strands of the rope stunt. This one I wouldn't even attempt.
Or like the self equalizing anchor. It's tested to be safe. I rarely use it, maybe 5% of the time. I see flaws in it that make me uncomfortable. I see advantages in it over other systems .
Do I use it regularly?.... NO
Does it have a use?..... Yes, and when it does I'm very happy to use it

The Trad Texas Rope Trick thread was an extension of the TRT.
Is this safe?......... NO
Does it work?........YES
Does it have a use? Probably not in 99.99% of any emergency situation but YNK.

You act as though climbers here have no brains

I see your point

rocknice2 I had the impression you've actually used your rig? As in 'takin it past theory?'

If so I wasn't talking about you mate. The thing I think is problematic are folks who have never tried any of this weighing in with theories about how it will or won't work. Some of them sound very convincing... to you realize they have never ever tried it, anywhere, and certainly not with their own asses.

To paraphrase Jon Stuart - rappelling isn't a fucking game!

I have tried it after seeing done by my crazy friend.
It was more of an "I can be crazy too" sort of thing.

Don't confuse trying with using

I know j_ung has tested it on the ground and sounds like a couple of climbers here have tried it.

It sounds ludacris so why do you think anyone is going to jump into this ass first.

It's going to be that climber who needs to know it all that will first asess it, EXPERIMENT WITH IT ON THE GROUND and then MAYBE try it once.

I'm not speaking to or for those who might try it. I speaking to those who haven't tried it yet make suggestions for how to improve it.

Will some nooby try some faulty technique and get killed? I doubt that too. twill be the 3/5 year climber, getting strong and thinking they got this shit down, that will be most tempted.

Of this group, a subset is USED to working things out on their own and experimenting. I don't worry about that crowd.

But another subset has had their entire body of lcimbing knowledge spoonfed to them in fairly antiseptic conditions. Some recent threads about half ropes spring to mind.....

Pull the cam trick is not texas rope trick and people should stop referring it to TRT.

Certainly a "clever" idea though the risk of using it to save a cam is pretty absurd! But consider this possible application: using it to get off a big remote alpine wall. I've heard of stories of guys using their entire rack (and shoelaces) building rap anchors: you might be able to get a few more raps out of your rack if you were able to retrieve a piece or two.

"TTRT"

Notice the extra T

It refers to Texas probably because it sortof/notreally lasso's the sling/trigger.

Bullriding / Rapping a TTRT = about the same

As for my pontificating about a technique on the intardweb, isn't that my business? Why don't you go after the sick hard climbers who write TRs that make their projects sound like a breeze? I'd think a noob would be more likely to read those and not realize the enormous gap in skill and experience (remember Amber?) Nah, you'd rather leave them alone and go after me - I'm an easier target, 'cause I'm just some random poster.

Screw that!

Plus, I think your anxiety is entirely misplaced. How many of the spoon-fed masses that you want to keep under your wing do you think are out there climbing right now on one of the new improved self-equalizing whatever-o-lettes? I bet the answer is pretty damn close to zero. If it's not in some "officially sanctioned" book, they want none of it.

So this ain't your bag. Big deal - no-one's making you play this game.

Besides, Dingus, from what I've read in your TRs, your kids are smart enough (and you've taught them how to use that smarts) to not try this at home. So ease up a bit.

I am not sure if you can use RC as a reference for your claim since I MAY had posted it way before you but if you knew cam release trick 15 years ago then you were ahead cause I knew about it no more than 8-9 years.

edit to add that the "S" version of cord trick was developed by me so I currently hold the title to the updated version of the cam release trick.

It's true. I just checked with the patent office, and Majid holds the rights to the TTRT. Since he is a subsidiary of the Sony Corporation, any further discussion of this will be subject to intellectual property lawsuits.

But seriously, if y'all in this thread took half the time you've spent jerking off about this trick and devoted it to actually training your climbing ability, you would not have to bail off your 5.7 gully routes and worry about leaving a cam anyway. So suck it. This thread is awful.

Speaking of unsubstantiated bullshit... How about if you tell me how many people you know, who having read about all the newfangled anchor suggestions in that thread a few years ago, once, even just once, used them to rely on? I bet that if you know any, they're not the dweebs who need your vaunted protection from themselves.

And now, broadening the pool beyond just the people you know - how many climbers in the last few years, since that horrible thread of death, have you heard about auguring in to the ground because their anchors failed? That thread had dozens of anchors, hundreds of pages, and it's killed how many people so far? How many do you suppose it's going to kill?

Yeah, I'll be damn surprised if your prediction comes true.

If anyone here was making false claims, I'd be right there with you calling for them to STFU. But that's not the case. We're just bandying around concepts which may or may not hold water. I think anyone who wants is perfectly capable of rapping on an independent line and independent anchor and playing around with this stuff safely. It's really not the big deal you're making it out to be.
