Just wondering if this is normal or if anyone else has experienced it. It only happens on the top of my forearm when it seems like i'm pulling my hardest. It feels as if the muscle fibers on the top of my forearm are picked like strings on a guitar left to right. Almost like they pop in and out of place. It doesn't hurt and my strength stays the same during the move. I'm guessing its just an indicator that i'm reaching my max while i'm pulling?

Once or twice. The sound is way more unnerving than the pain.

While I am not a trained professional by any means, I do work at a health center and few weeks back our Sports Medicine doctor came out of one of the examination rooms excited about something. Now, I cannot remember the technical name, but he was describing pretty much exactly what you are. He was kinda pumped up because it wasn't that often you can actually 'hear' an internal injury or condition. I asked him if it was common to climbers and he said no - it mostly occured during an activity such as rowing or repeatedly digging trenches as a result of over inflammation without enough lubrication between the muscles and as they slide over they squeak/creak/pop. Do you do any supplemental sports or exercises other than climbing? It didn't seem that serious (he wouldn't have been bragging about it) but I'm sure someone here with better googling or medical experience could help you out more. If I see the aforementioned doc around (working in a different area lately), I'll ask him about treatment.

It happens in my hips more than my arm. I know what it is. I run, and climb. I also have a job that does alot of hard work with my arms and legs.

It's happened to me alot, usually when I'm not fully stretched out and warmed up before I get started on a route. It never hurts...usually scares the hell out of me(at least enough so that I peel off the wall pretty quick), but I usually just stretch out a little bit more after the fact. hope it helps!

That happens to me frequently, has for years. Definitely seems to only do it when I'm not warmed up, usually just the first climb. Happens also when lifting weights at beginning of workout. Always just the forearms. Used to freak me out, now its no big deal, never really seemed to result in an injury or anything. Best thing to do is probably stretch first like others have said.

It always seems to be in my left arm. But yea i think i've noticed it more when i'm not that warmed up. Could be the cause. and yes this is very late lol. Sorry
