Is this a good deal or just a bad cam?

R.E.I. is a bad company to support, part of the ARC, pushing th Adventure Pass. I had some Clog biners that were awesome. British gear seems to be good quality, haven't checked the Clog cams.

Ryan- Thanks for the heads-up! I've been watching the "avalanche sale" waiting for the price to drop. Although I haven't used these cams, I've seen them and toyed with them. I like the action of the cam, although the range wasn't optimal, but for $19 you can't go wrong.

Thanks for pointing that out, I'm gonna get one of those!

I got the 3.5 (www.rei-outlet.com) for $30 last year, and have placed it a bunch. Haven't whipped on it yet. Nothing wrong with it. It's exactly the same thing as a flexible friend.

oh yeah, check this out - cool cam size comparison chart.

Anybody hear what I said. Sure cheaper cam, but the fee to climb everytime adds up after "pay to play" is the norm., thanks to lobbying by big money interestes, like, duh, R.E.I.

I have a set of clog cams. They're the same as flexible/tech friends (same range) except:

1) The stops are pins instead of milled.
2) The springs are weaker--they walk a bit more.
3) The trigger mechanism/cable gets messed up easier.

When these wear out, I will replace them with tech friends (my favorite cam). However, these cams place fine and have caught me on more than one occasion.

micronut-
Thanks for the link. Following the link, I couldn't find any info about REI as a part of ARC. So, I did a short google search and found some info about REI and ARC at the following link:

http://www.wildwilderness.org/docs/reiquits.htm

The 1999 letter from the REI COO basically lays out their position on the fee demo program and defines their relationship with ARC. They have never been a member of ARC and were tangentially associated with the group since they participated in the Roundtable which was sponsored by ARC. REI chose to disassociate themselves from the group because of the "mixed message" it sent to REI members.

Interesting stuff. Perhaps boycotters such as yourself had a part of REI's positional change...
