Today (Sunday May 31) my partner's truck was broken into at the Central Endless parking area. They went through our stuff and took some pro, biners and slings, leaving behind my cell phone, wallet with cash, tent, sleeping bags. I would hate to think climbers would do such a thing (if they did, that is some BAD karma) but why would a non-climber steal climbing gear and not take the wallet?? Man, i'm pissed...

Keep an eye on your credit card activity. I know of a couple thefts where it looked like the wallet was spared, but the thieves took down the credit card numbers so the owner wouldn't think to cancel them right away.

Bridge jumpers? Man - that rots. Good thing they left the wallets, id, etc.

Sneaky - I never thought of that. Guess I just wasn't cut out for that business.

yea well expect an increase in stuff like this during hard times. Definitely sucks a big one though people are getting the snot beat out of them in broad daylight in Baltimore, just because jobless teens have nothing better to do than cause mayhem. as times get desperate, so do people.

Most of our fine local descendant have learned that trying to sell used climbing gear with a NASCAR sticker on your car, a CAT deisel hat on your head, and a Skoal bandit in your jaw works about as well as trying to borrow money from a drug dealer... Most of your gear is stolen by climbers, friends. Like it or not, this ain't the good old days when you could leave a $20 bill on the table at your camp and come back to find that someone had put a rock on it to keep it there. Now you'll be lucky if they haven't stolen the table and your camp while you were gone, as well.

Ronin, we need to sit around the campfire and drink some beer. You are getting to be quite the curmudgeon. It does suck about the gear thefts.

Charley- all ya gotta do is ring the Roninphone... I'll pm the digits... ...and if I wasn't being a curmudgeon, the internet would be full of all you happy, fuzzy people constantly looking on the bright side and giving people the benefit of the doubt....

If the perp. is caught someone needs to pull this persons toenails out with a pair of pliers. Then leave him clipped in to a bolt with a Q-draw about 35ft off the deck of a 5.13 if he can down climb he goes free. Otherwise he learns a lesson the hard way. OFF BELAY! Sorry to hear about your loses every time I leave camp at Sandrock I put everything in the truck and leave the dog with the camp. I come back to all my stuff everytime. Shes a Great Dane with a napolean disorder.

We have reason to believe the guys who got us at Seneca are from Fayetteville... be on the lookout for an overweight climber with a banjo accompaniment...

I am an insurance agent, it may cover under comprehensive coverage and a claim filed as comprehensive will not count against your insurance.. other examples that don't count against are when you hit a deer, animal etc..you have to pay the deductible though..

As I remember, known thief and rc.com user WVUclimber was a bit pudgy. I wish I could find a picture of him for the recent robbery victims at Seneca!

day-am! Well, that karma he spoke of will catch up with him, I guess. Bummer, too, because yeah, he did owe a multi-day ascent of a 30-foot cliff, too (see the Angry-Majid rappel smackdown). Glad he got caught, though.
