I'm heading up to the rocktown area for two weeks in late December. I was wondering what the best way to keep feet warm was. I know I should keep my climbing shoes in my jacket when not using them, but what about my feet? I could just put my socks and shoes on, but that would take a considerable amount of time. Using a blanket would be fast, but then I would not be able to walk around and spot others. Please share your strategies.

Down or synthetic booties might work. The kind where you just slip them on and cinch the draw cord. Mine are made so you can walk around in them without wrecking the bottoms. Though I am not familiar with the climbing area you are going to, so this might be overkill...

Down booties are good.
Wool socks slip easy into Birks or Chacos.

I agree on the down booties. You wouldn't even have to take your shoes off - just shove your feet in the booties and call it good.
Another thing you can try, though somewhat unconventional, is sprinkle cayenne pepper on your foot and in your shoes before you put them on. I've never done this with rock shoes, but I've put in inside my liner socks when I was wearing my mountaineering boots, and it kept my feet surprisingly warm.

Thanks for the Advice! The down booties sound good, but expensive. I will definitely try to fit a thin sock into my shoes, though I probably won't be able to. How does the peper keep your feet warm?

I'm not a doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!
Honestly, I don't know the physiology behind it, but I think it has something to do with the pepper stimulating blood flow in the skin, which then allows your toes to stay warm. Whatever the reason, it does sort of work - in mountaineering boots. Again, I've never tried it in climbing shoes. Maybe you could check it out and see if it works?
