zoom, 135, 50, wide angle ect. i like a wide angle for bouldering shots and a 400 for getting climbers that are waaaaaaay up.

my 20-35mm f2.8 wide angle zoom is my all time fave...105mm and 180mm rank up there too: both very fast and very sharp

I would love to have a zoom lenze for my minolta...alas, i am too poor, instead, I am stuck shooting pictures of boulderers with my 45mm lense--anything farther away and the subject is lost. Maybe someday

Edit: But as far as a favorite lense goes...a fisheye in the right hands can produce some stellar photos.

My favorite climbing lense is my AF Nikon 24mm, f2.8. It is sharp, contrasty, good color rendition, wide enough to show alot of background, yet long enough to not overly distort the climber. If I can't get close to my subject then I love my 80-200mm, f2.8 AF zoom, very sharp and contrasty for a zoom, especially shot wide open to blurr the background.

I have found that it is nice to have both a wide angle lense (24mm 2.8 is premium) to capture the rout as well as a semi telephoto lense to capture the climber from a distance or the view from the top. I usually bring both my 80-200mm 2.8 as well as my fixed 105mm 2.8 the larger aperatures are nice for routs that are shadowed.
