If you want to know before you go to Pilot, spend time at home at http://ClimbPilotNC.us so that you will know how to get to the top-rope anchors and how much rigging to bring, which way to go from the bottom of Three Bears Gully, what each face looks like when you are there. The pocket guide at ccc forum, given free at the park office, has few and poor photos and almost no information on purpose. ClimbPilotNC.us has tons of photos on purpose and beta from many climbers per route.
