so, i'm a very small woman, who's been climbing for about 2 seasons now, but my boots have always been too large. it is extremely difficult to find models that are womens specific and come in small sizes. I need about a size 4 or 5 in womens. does any one know of a company that might carry something like that? Not mountaineering boots, but ones that are stiff enough for vertical ice. something aggressive. thanks!!! m.b.

Dunno about that small size. But, I'd give backcountry.com a try. When I bought my boots (I have a strange heel shape) I ordered like 6 pairs from them, they shipped them all free and shipped the pairs that didn't fit back for free too. I had the money for them all out while i had them, they returned the money when they got the boots back. I think I asked them to do this and they kindly obliged. Finding good fitting boots in any size is pretty fuckin hard. If no boots seem to exist, i've heard of someone in Salt Lake who makes custom ski boots. costs a few grande i think tho. depending on what your boots are maybe you could get a new liner?

What's the metric equivalent of wormen's 4-5? Mountain Tools has the classic La Sportiva EVO ice boots down to 36: http://www.mtntools.com/cat/alpineice/boots/lasportivanepalevogtxboots.htm Good luck! Hope you find something that fits. Kathy

My wife uses these for vertical ice and loves them. She uses Grivel G-14 and BD Cyborg crampons with them. They are also made warmer for women's feet. http://www.mec.ca/...;bmUID=1252541698006

You'll need to get ahold of reps from some of the european boot manufacturers. That size is generally available in europe but not America. If they wont get it done for you give me a PM I'll see what I can do.

You have a real problem. Assuming you mean US women's 4.5, that's actual size 34.5 or 35 at the most -- 36 is way too big without lots of socks, footbeds, and custom padding. On the bright side, anything that small will be plenty stiff. Getting crampons to work will be a challenge too. Probably ordering from Europe will be your best bet. Try http://www.telemark-pyrenees.com/shop/index.php?language=en

I think in most styles you'll find 36 too big. US 4-5 is UK 2-3 and EU 35, which is my size. I have really struggled to find moutaineering boots which fit and will do what is needed. However the one ice climbing boot that fitted was a La Sportiva Womens Nepal EVO GTX . Its pretty pricey and as I already had a couple pairs of ice boots (both too big....) I couldn't really justify buying them, but they fitted well. I think it was a 36 however this was several years and it may have been a 35 (which they don't do now, not sure if they ever did) as 36 is usually too big for me. Might be worth trying.

My girlfriend is the same size. Check out La sportiva. You can search the find.com for them too.

Would it be possible rip the bottom off of a well fitting pair of boots (like Mega's, Kaukulators, or some other high top sized to be comfortable with wool socks) and getting Brent_e to build a carbon fibre/kevlar footbed/sole for it? You then get a cobbler to attach the two and you build your own fruit boots. Sweet shit, sweet sweet shit.

the idea would be to get a pair of high-top boots that FIT YOU WELL but are too soft-soled to be good ice boots. Send them to Brent_e. He will take off the soft soles and use them as a form to make a pair of stiff kevlar/carbon-fiber soles. He sends you the sole-less boots and the new stiff soles. You go to a cobbler who attaches the new stiff-ice-worthy soles to the boots-that-fit-but-USED-to-have-soles-that-were-too-soft. Savy?
