This is the best rap device, of course don't wrap it 5 times, 1-2 times and go.

I don't know, that might just twist the rope? Probly work just fine in a pinch though...don't know never used that method. Back on topic, damn the luck, should have struck while the iron was hot

I know a person who is never going to walk on his own after falling with that system and only two wraps. binrat

Once around the spine and go. Sorry your friend sounds like he didn't know what he was doing and that's a good way to get hurt.

The Canadian Military still uses it, and he is a member there. Thats were he got hurt. If you are light then its ok, but if you are heavy or have a heavy load then its no good. Why do you think so many organizations are getting away from it? Its simple, cheap, requires little training, but hard to induce more friction. You have to remember that accidents for some armys are acceptable while training. binrat

I've done it with an auto-block on 11m static line...only three wraps and it was fine, no issues...I remember imagining if it was a smaller diameter rope, it would most definitely slip and need one or two more wraps...sucks for your buddy bro...always auto-block, it's such a simple and short step i don't understand why dudes skip it...normally i just use a reverso...

Well down south we fast rope, rappelling is far safer than a fast rope. Isn't that right PFC Todd Daniel Blackburn?

I've always wondered why they don't use a munter or some other brake, it just seems like it creates a fast rappel, then add all the equipment and you're asking for trouble.
