Check out "The Beta: Super Mario", the fourth in a series: a visual spray-down of some classic boulder problems (from the Triple Crown in the Southeast US) and a little bit about the climber. if you haven't seen the series, you can see all the videos here: http://vimeo.com/album/125831 Enjoy! - akorn

Nice work! Your beta series is defiantly the best series going on the web right now. Did you use the Mark 2 for Super Mario? Seems a little softer then some of the other vids in the series. Good work and keep em coming.

Thanks man - For Super Mario I used mostly the Sony EX1 and a little bit from the Nikon D5000 (the obvious wide angle closeups). Compared to the other videos, its definitely going to look a little soft - Most of the footage on the others were not video, but stop-motion from a Nikon D3! Also though, make sure you are watching it in HD mode.

You videos are so beautiful, especially in HD, but my poor DSL lite gets upset when I watch them.

Ah, you're using the D3. Looks great man. Just great. Like the editing too. The first two vids in the series were particularly good. Poked around your website and found the rollerblading short you did. That was also pretty killer. Didn't know that people were still skating. i used to be pretty into that world. It was get a little peak into what remains of that industry. Seems like there's been a small resurgence there. Anyways. Keep up the good work.

I love how affordable technology is pushing small budget production quality through the roof. Remember the old Smith Rock video? Chances are this was done for 1/100th the cost and looks about 2,000 times better. (i used the Smith Rock vid because it's old, not similar in subject)

If you are interested, Peter Beal spoke with me about these videos on his blog, mountainsandwater.com in two parts: http://www.mountainsandwater.com/2009/11/director-commentary-from-andrew.html and http://www.mountainsandwater.com/2009/11/five-questions-for-andrew-kornylak.html

http://www.mountainsandwater.com/...ary-from-andrew.html http://www.mountainsandwater.com/2009/11/five-questions-for-andrew-kornylak.html Andrew, again, really like the videos. I'm a little curious about the work flow for the D3 image sequences as it relates to working with FCP and Photoshop. When you pull them off the camera into photoshop is there a utility that lets you batch process all the images to edit in photoshop? And when you say you "edited" images in photoshop do you mean you tweaked the color settings etc? Thanks.

Specifically, I used Adobe Camera Raw in Bridge CS4 to edit the images - just color correction, or "grading" in video terms. In Bridge you can apply an edit to multiple images at a time. Once I finished editing in Bridge, I exported the images to my Final Cut project. I am actually giving a presentation on this at the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar in December www.photojournalism.org - if you are around, you should come. Otherwise Ill have a video of it on my blog afterwards.

Awesome videos, but one question. Where is the beta for a classic or four from Horse Pens?

How do you figure out which problems you want to do? Has it been the choice of the featured climber or a decision made by yourself? I have always thought to myself that when I finally get a good camera to make some videos, Mortal Kombat will have some great potential... wink wink nudge nudge
