Step 1: Find a pebble Step 2: Wrestle it into submission Look through a book on basic rock climbing techniques for the actual movement skills and hand holding techniques that are fundamental to all rock climbing. Then, for safety, folks typically use spotters and/or crash pads (basically soft mats to land on). How To Rock Climb by John Long should be a good resource.

Why not a speech about astrophysics ... or maybe one on the role the axiom of choice plays in mathematics?

Isn't that what school's for? Bouldering isn't astrophysics after all. The OP might have had an interest in climbing and finally decided to explore it a bit....
