I just thought there ought to be a place for climbers to complain about those few horrible places we should avoid buying from. For me it's ZBsports.com They don't have very much merchandise actually in stock, so unless you find the absolute best deal and can wait for a month you should look elsewhere. I would suggest backcountrygear.com, they are super fast at shipping and let you know if something is not in stock. Others I would suggest avoiding are not climbing related, but bike related: nycbikes.com and chainreactioncycles.com (from UK but advertise for the U.S. market using BS exchange rates for prices).

buy.com A couple years ago, for my then in-laws 50th wedding anniversary, we bought a set of coins from the year of their wedding via buy.com. Despite ordering 12 weeks in advance, and despite their guarantee that the coin set would arrive 4 weeks before the date, and despite six phone calls after they didn't arrive on the promised date, and despite six assurances that the coins WOULD arrive before the date of the anniversary party, the coins didn't show up until two weeks after the promised day. Never. Again. Ever.

I haven't had any bad luck ordering on-line yet, but then again I have never used any of the companies defined as "bad" in this thread. Here are some that I have had really good luck with: rockandsnow.com mountaingear.com zappos.com backcountry.com Curt

I'll echo mountaingear.com and backcountry.com. Safe bet that 90% of my outdoor gear (three tents, two sleeping bags, big ol' trad rack, big ol' ice rack, more pairs of shoes and jackets/coats than I can count, etc.) has come from these two. Every time, it's been quality gear, good prices, and top rate service.

According to a lot of people on this site, tradrack.com's service leaves a bit to be desired.
