so in other words is it worth me tracking down a used copy of the DWG guide book. the NJ one is "okay" as i'm sure you all know but does the earlier book have better topos or help more with route finding?
plus...does anyone have the new PA climbing book? how does that compare?

The old DWG book is definitely worth having. I own both, and use the old one much more. I was told that the new one has some errors, and I like the topos in the old one better.
I'm not sure which new PA climbing book you are talking about. If you're talking about the one by curt haler (sp?), it's very small, and I've been told it doesn't have any real topos. Another guide to PA will be out soon, by Rob Holzman. It will be a few hundred pages long, and will include the water gap. If you look on www.paclimbing.com, you can see a sample section he has on the DWG. You can expect a similar format when the book finally goes to print.

+1 on having both the Steele and Falcon guides. If you have trouble finding the Steele try the hiking shop in the town of DWG (Edge of the Woods?). The had a couple copies last time I was in.
Sadly the new guide from paclimbing.com has been stuck on "...going to print in a few short weeks." for at least a year.

Yes. Find the Steele guide book. I thought I saw one somewhwre not too long ago (REI?) so figured they were still available. I don't even see one on Amozon right now. I might scan mine for you if they are really gone.

yea i have been waiting for that new one for quite a bit too. has anyone e-mailed him or tryied to get any info on it? moving hu...

chesslerbooks.com still sells the old guide, $15 -thats probably the best place to look for hard to find guides.

It's right in town, a couple doors uphill from the traffic light at the 3 way intersection with the red gas station (pizza place? I forget which it is). Coming from the cliff it's half a block down from Sycamore Grill. Here's a link to their website: http://www.edgeofthewoodsoutfitters.com/
