And don't throw out all those variables. There is one crag you go to more than most. Let's hear the weight of that one. I weighed mine today and it comes in at 80lbs. I know its high but the one I normally go to is a top rope area and I take my mom and carry all her gear too. She's an old woman. It was two ropes, part of the trad rack, plus everything else I needed.

Work/rescue pack 75#, plus a 300' static rope in a separate bag. Recreational pack 35#, plus a 60m 10mm rope in it's own bag. Enough variables?

about 35lbs for a day out in comfort. that's a typical gunks day with full rack, a 60m rope, water, lunch. add some pounds in cold weather, farther approaches ect.

BD Instinct pack, Rack (C4's .4 - 4 with a couple mid-range doubles; C3's 00-1; Aliens Black - Red, about 15 runners, various other crap), harness, shoes, helmet = About 25 lbs. Add about 5-7 lbs for food/water. 9 lbs when it's really hot. Plus rope bag with 70M Mammut Infinity 9.5 - maybe 8 lbs? This is for day cragging in the Gunks. (edited for clarity)

I think your scale is way off… my expedition pack weighs in around that, it includes the weight of all my PPE , medical, food , fuel, shelter, and then some. Even when I lived in AK doing grunt work for the FS and had to pack in every day, food, PPE , fuel, rigging, felling tools , ax,, saw maintenance tools and lube ,and my saw 044 STIHL , my pack still came in under 75p. My crag pack is under 30 pounds , includes all the PPE for two (2), and currently - Cathedral through Cannon are my usual crags. Either your scale is off, or you are loading up some poor pack that is probably not even rated to carry that weight with rocks… I would love to see a photo of this poor pack you speak of and its contents .

I placed mine on the UPS scales at work one day and it weighed in at 48 lbs, but I had two ropes in it that day and I generally try to make someone else carry at least one of them. So I'd guess that on a typical day of climbing my pack weighs somewhere between 30 and 35 lbs.

If I slam the rope, rack, shoes, harness, belay devices, draws, lunch, water, and a few other odds and ends I think it winds up around 45 or 50 pounds.

It was two ropes, part of the trad rack, plus everything else I needed. I would have that much weight if I was hauling all of my bolting gear (drill=10lbs), 20ea 1/2 x 6-1/2 wedge anchors = 15 lbs, plus a rack, 2 ropes, shovel, my .45 pistol, ammunition for said with a few extra mags AND a chain saw. But not a little pissy chain saw but a big assed one. I've been weighing my big wally as I head out to put in a new route, and it's been in the 60-65 lb range. No chain saw.
