I'm thinking (now that I'm going to have a job again) about going for Massage - does anyone go on a regular basis ? Is it worth it?

I get a massage at least 2x per month. I love it.

Don't be shy with your therapist. Tell the therapist that you are a climber and that "x" muscles are sore. If the therapist is not going deep enough, let them know. For me, a good massage is all about deep pressure.

If you go to a massage school, you can get them for $35-$45 and hour. That said, I have rarely had a decent massage at a massage school. They are too formulaic, not specific to my body and they focus way too much on "proper" draping techniques. Takes them 1/2 the time just to drape.

I have never seen free massages at any school around me.

Our gym had a massage guy for awhile. He totally fixed my calf muscle that had been wound up too tight for months after an ankle sprain.

It can become addictive, and was well worth it.

I miss the massage guy!

What's up, Dan? I'm short massages 3 days a week as part of my therapy after back surgery. It rocks, but if it wasn't included in my copay, there's no way I could afford it. If you have the money, I say yes.

I guess it depends on if you get a happy ending every time.Cool

Real men don't need pampering unless the happy ending is part of the pampering.Tongue

You lie! But he needs to come back. He helped fix my back, too.

And now that I'm lugging all these books, I need his services even more!

The hueco girls were awesome - despite my adamant warning - when she did my feet - it was...well.....one of the best experiences of my life.

I have a masseuse who comes to my house every Thursday evening for a one hour massage. I sometimes also have one on Mondays too.

Wonderful. I live a rough life in South East Asia.

We have an inexpensive massage membership through a clinic in Atlanta, and I think they have clinics nationwide now. It's like $39 for an hour, not including tip, and it took a few times before finding the 'perfect' therapist. Like other people said, be vocal about your needs before and during the massage so you get the most out of it. Don't know what I would do without it now. Totally worth it, and I only got my first massage a couple years ago.

Most places with programs like that set a mandatory minimum. $15-20 usually. It's kind of like waiting tables, they make most of their money on tips.

And to answer your OP, I go as often as I can and highly recommend it.

I don't go on a regular basis...but it is worth it. I always wake up the morning after a massage feeling like I could climb all day. If you do go, get the deep tissue/sports massage.

My climbing partner goes regularly 1X/month and swears by it. Methinks I need in on this.

My strategery is to use a few of the 1-hour massage gift certificates that I keep giving to my wife for Xmas/V-Day/Mother's Day/etc. that she never uses.

Nobody rat me out...m'kay? Crazy

I just got a full Thai massage today. It was fucking amazing. She said next time she'll do the oil massage.

Oh yeah, her son is one of the climbers at my gym so she did this for free and she's smoking hot.

Also, she made me dinner afterwards.

L U C K Y ..... Thai massage then Thai food!!! If it was Pad Thai w/ shrimp and a Singha beer, that'd be quite an epic day.

To the OP, I too like a good massage. Once, after 5 days of hard climbing in Utah, this therapist gal friend of mine massaged my forearms for 30 minutes and it felt grrreat! Like I havent climbed a lick in the past week and I was able to go 2 more days before a rest day.

I dont know how they do it all day. My wife likes it when I give her a massage but after about 10 or 15 minutes Im like " Ahh... Im a wuss and have to stop, my hands hurt" She says "your a climber, you have strong hands" I say "yeah, Im a climber, not a massage therapist"Wink

I am currently well past the massage stage; I have barely been able to move my neck for the last three days.

Hopefully the chiropractor can see me today.

Didn't David Caradine show you that you're not supposed to do THAT to your neck?
