I just talked to Kenny at Water Stone Outdoors and he told me that the long awaited new New guide is now available for pre-order, only at waterstoneoutdoors.com

I know this guide was supposed to be ready this past fall, (nobody knows that more than a former Waterstone employee, trust me...) and it's now slated to be shipping either February or March. The new guide is going to be totally sweet with lots of new areas that previously haven't been documented. Spread the word that the pre-order is now available.

And, for all of you traveling climbers who love stopping in at Water Stone (I know there are lots of you) their new online store just opened for business last week. Swing by and check it out.

Jesus, it's about time. We've been waiting since the original Sept/Oct date. Thanks for the heads up.

Edit: Just ordered it!

I believe more extensive coverage of the Meadow, possibly some talk of the Gauley, and some bouldering areas thrown in too.

New areas include Cotton Top, the whole river left side of the Meadow, the area south of the descent gully at Whipperwill, Long point (the crags across the lake from Whipperwill), and two areas downstream of Summersville Dam on the Gauley River. No bouldering is described in detail.

Oh the number of times I've cursed Cater for miscounting bolts or forgetting to mention there aren't anchors. Or for having descriptions like, "trad", "crack", "face", "fingery". Or how about the sub par rating system? The only thing I like about Caters book are the cliff line maps.

To Cater's credit, I found I spend less time lost in the jungle avoiding snakes than with the previous books.

But yeah, counting doesn't seem to be a strength of his.

Two extra draws + 1 for Cater math.

This is true, but it seems the only lines he gets accurate are his own. Research didn't seem to be too much of a concern.

Last night I flipped through an advanced copy of Mikey William's NRG guidebook. In almost 24 years of using guidebooks, I can honestly say that this is -- hands down -- the best one I have ever seen. There's much history and so many stories. There are so many high-quality photos of hidden classics, and I bet you haven't seen most of them ever before. There are so many previously unpublished areas, some of them substantial in scope. I promise you, keep a copy in your bathroom, and you will walk away from every dump for the next five years with another goal in mind.

Just a bump on this thread....The book is out and about in the town of Fayetteville. The first shipment available to the public is due soon at Waterstone Outdoors. Pre-order now at www.wolverinepublishing.com
and save 8 bucks. That's 3 dollars more than what you paid for your old book but this is one is 548 pages, full color, stacked with info, history, photos, etc.
Get one!

Ugh, no guest checkout? I find it annoying, you can't even see shipping costs unless you create an account. Guess I'll buy it in store.

Just broke down and did it. Account takes 4 secs to make, and shipping is 4.16 total was 36 and a few cents.

Sweet! Thanks for the update. I'm in Iraq until late May/early June and I ordered one so I'd have something to get me by until I get home. I saw the preview on Wolverine Publishing's website and it looks phenomenal. Big shout-out to Mike Williams for a kick-ass guidebook and also to Kenny Parker and the good folks at Waterstone for help on the international shipping order.

FYI, Water Stone has many, many copies of Mikey Williams' guidebook in stock and ready for buying. I personally saw a WS employee packaging and mailing pre-orders just a couple days ago. It's out!
