I have five months to do an unlimited amount of climbing. I would like to travel the world and am looking at spending time in New Zeland, Italy, France, China, Norway and am looking for some information on the places I should go for great trad climbing? any information would be helpful as I will be making plans ove the next month.

I'm planning a similar trip in about a year. So I'm really interested in whatever comes out of this thread too :) (although I won't be tradclimbing).

I would really spend some time in Fontainebleau for bouldering, .. it is an amazing area with thousands of routes.
Arco in North Italy is a good area for sports (and probably trad) climbing.
You could also check out the area around Rodellar in the Pyrenees (Spain).

Simple: A month each in Squamish, the Valley, Toulmne, Wind River Range and Cirque of the Unclimbables.

And the OP specifically said:

Sigh.

In my opinion, if you're in france and italy, you may as well hit spain while your at it... And you definitely need to go to slovenia, climbing is the national sport there...

Australia has better trad climbing than NZ (Arapiles, Frog Buttress, Tasmania, Grampains) but NZ has alot better sport climbing (Paynes Ford, Wye Creek, Babylon/Lil Babylon) and better scene and alot more rest day activities near the climbing places, Wye Creek and Paynes Ford in very popular cultural area's where as Frog, Arapiles and Tas have quite remote climbing.

I read what he wrote. Point is, he can save the air fare. NOrth America has the best trad climbing on Earth, so why bother? I went to Asia climbing, and went WTF, I could have better climbing at home.

I agree that Climbing in North America is great, but I have been in Yosemite the last two years and am looking for new experiences. I have hit Tuolumne, the Valley, and even made it to Hetchy for the backcountry climbing adventure. although a great suggestions I am looking to travel outsided the U.S. But thanks to everyone else for the suggestions. I think Spain will have to be an addition to the trip!

So, you have obviously haven't been to Arapiles, wallrat.

I can see why you would be disappointed with the trad climbing in Asia, considering there is any there.

To the original poster - if you go to NZ and you're into alpine rock, then head for the Darrans. Enough there fort a lifetime of first ascents.
