That's what placing a tri cam is like one handed half the time. that's freaking brilliant! i like that idea a lot. i'm going to tape one of my tricams to try that out when i get home today where are you placing tricams that you need it stiffer (cept for passive above your head) ? i just put it between my index and middle fingers [image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v115/Socjake/Random/IMG_9440.jpg?t=1261081333[/image] This only works if your fingers fit in the crack too.

The tape doesn't make it that stiff, just allows the head to be less floppy. It really helps on the smaller sizes like the red and pinkie. Its much easier to flip it between passive and active mode. Definitely much less fiddly and allows easy one handed placements.

I also save tri cams for places where i can fiddle with them a bit and save the same sized cam for when i'm like ahhh *shove*

Sometimes I find that the places I'm sticking them in aren't immediately on the face and necesitate that I push them in. Often times that means that I have to use the stem to push them with and having them taped makes it easy to reach over/up/across/wherever and place them a lot quicker. Say for example a horizontal that gets down to pink tricam size a few inches back but is initially flaring or highly irregular on the face. Grabbing it by the metal and trying to stick it back in there with your fingers in the way is (in my opinion) more difficult than grabbing the stem after it's been taped and sticking it way in the back. I don't know about you but mine flop everywhere like a wet noodle. Ever since I've taped them up I find myself reaching for them a lot more, I can place them a lot quicker than before and feel a lot more comfortable with them.

Yeah I'm feeling the lack of quickdraws right now. My second doesn't have a belay device though so it was easy to get (only Clog cheapest :P) I was tempted by Tricams but was recommended against them. Just as well now seeing the debate over them!

Proficiency in placing tricams negates the need in the same way that many believe wired hexes are easier to place compared to slung hexes. Slung hexes are more versatile, and tricams are better as they are produced, without a stiffened sling. Some will disagree with me. I will agree with you and where the hell is me sticker ?

15 pounds Missing the obvious: - Truck load of slings - Ropes: 1 10.5 and 1 8.5 - Helmets, shoes, harnesses - First aid, bivy sack, ... Obviously, judging by the high shinny factor of the gear, I'm a gumby. I'm working on a rack for the longer multi-pitch routes in the North East. My first lead was standard at whitehorse ledge. I climb with my son, so I keep the difficulty level pretty low. edit: added weight, changed image host url

How many of the neutrino rack packs did you have to buy? 3? Im incredibly jealous of all your color coded cams/ biners. I gt one rack pack for my cams so I have some that are color coded, but only 6 out of 12. Pretty cool!

I usually carry a Glock36 (subcompact single stack .45). When that isn't an option I switch to a Taurus 85.
