Hey folks,

I'm trying to figure out what model of shoe this is:

They are made by Boreal, apparently say "9.9" on the inside (I guess that's the size??).

What's the scoop on these shoes if you know what they are? I'm assuming they are for trad and all-day stuff, board-lasted, comfy, but can you give me any more info/personal experiences with 'em?

Thanks.

Yes, those are Boreal Fires. Almost (but not quite) first generation. I would say those are from 1984 or 85.

Way to make a lot of us feel old!

Those shoes were IT ... there've been better shoes since then ... much better ... but, IMO, never a single model that stood so far above the rest at one time nor any other shoe that ushered in an entirely new era of possibilities like the Boreal Fire (correctly noted that it's pronounced FEE-ray) ... we once took a call at our mountain shop from a guy looking for "some of those fire shoes." Couldn't convince him otherwise.

I'm not sure about that, but the very first Fires shipped into the US had white laces (not red) and the red dots on the side were entirely red--with no black on them. Not too long after that, they began to look like the shoes in the photo.
