I came across the Kong duck while searching for gear; if you haven’t seen one it’s a tiny ascender that can be used on webbing (including daisy chains!).

The large hole for the carabineer would reduce the friction when you’re pulling and the toothless cam would allow it to be released under load. The clip in point for the crab would also be really short.
It may work fine straight onto a standard daisy (clipping a crab into the loose end of the daisy so it can’t slip through the duck). But.. If you could get a custom webbing strap made up (or buy a fish/Yates replacement) you would have a rated full strength adjustable daisy!
This is obviously a bit of big wall theorising so I would be interested to hear opinions before I go out and buy a pair.

This is a similar idea to what they use in the arborist and rope access worlds, only they use a full-strength rope with a Gibbs/Rescuescender-type device or a Grigri...

That was the idea. The duck and webbing are alot more compact though. 2 grigris might be overkill BUT on the other hand if you had long tails as well you might be able to do some interesting rope tricks.

i have one of the petzl gadgets above. works great. for climbing trees.
but i prefer my other one with just the regular gibs type ascender on it. they both have uses.
why do you care about having full strength adjustable daisy's anyways??

Speaking of adjustable daisys' weren’t you going to do some testing on those suckers to see their actual breaking strength?

Kate and ptpp climbed a wall last fall I think, using this technique. ptpp was glowing about it as I recall.
You can find that tr, and ptpp, on the Taco.

were they using those things? I thought it was those titanium Ushba ascenders, but I could be wrong.
