As I get ready to test my toes climbing, it occurs to me that I need a super stiff shoe. I need to take the pressure of my big toes.

So...any recommendations out there? I wear a women's 7-7.5.

Thanks!

at the moment, the stiffest commercial shoes i know of are acopa's jb, sportiva's tc pro, and the evolv quest. evolv will do some customization, so they'd probably be willing to double-down on the midsole to make it even stiffer.

if this is a temporary solution, you can make yr own mid-sole: take an old pair of comfortable shoes with a neutral last (not downturned), trace the insole on a sheet of thin steel, cut out yr own midsoles, and then sandwich them under a new re-sole.

glad to hear you're recovering

Hey, thanks for the suggestions!

My toes are still bad, I see the doc on april 1st. He told me to bring my climbing shoes, so, hopefully some good news.

btw, i should warn you that there will be a real learning curve going over (or even back) to stiff shoes. when i did it, i had grown so used to soft shoes, that for the first few weeks i'd instinctively crank/curl my toes, fighting against the shoe and even straining my big toe.

you'll need to cultivate new habits and learn to let the shoe do the work.

not to mention the subtle differences in footplacement, etc.

go really, really easy the first few weeks, even just spending some time on the ground experiment with foot placement and keeping yr toes relaxed.
