in response to the Kal whatevers criteria about ground fall=death being a necessary condition for some activity to be called *climbing*...it seems to me a rather strange criteria for a sport (roped climbing), where if done properly expressly prevents said death from　occuring...
are you saying that the essential feature of *climbing* is that if you do it like an asshole youre gonna die...well, then just about anything and everything we do is climbing...

Lucerne Limestone is a shithole compared to what? New Jack City or Red Rocks, NV?
You cannot compare because it is a small crag and has totally different rock type, limestone with feldspar bands.
Are you a hardman that sportclimbs 5.13 and are pissed because the hardest climb is 5.12? Did you invest any time, money or effort on the development of the crag?
I recommend you take Lucerne Limestone for what it is, a South-facing winter crag with a few dozen moderate sport climbs on unique rock.

So kalcario, what your saying is that if a person is good at one aspect of climbing, their automatically not good at any other types of climbng? So if a person is good at trad, but not sport or bouldering, there still an okay climber? yet if a person is good at bouldering, and not good at sport or trad, their automatically not a good climber? ok, that makes sense....

Sorry to not continue the flame wars fella: but I noticed that the topic wasn't "call someone names and lets define what climbing means to me".
kalcario, the sport has changed. I lament the fact that its wayyyyyy crowded. But for all that, I can often walk over to the most crowded area at Smith and do a moderate well protected 5.9 crack that would make anybody drool as there is no line except on the bolted route next to it. (say Moonshine diheadral for instance at 5.9)
God bless sport climbers for that.
Biggest disappoinment: not moving to Yosemite. Had a family and don't resent that though. It's about choices.
Biggest disapointment today is not seeing more pictures from kalcario. You guys check his stuff out? Dudes and artist so give him some room and some slack.

My biggest disappointment is almost always when I meet other climbers.
The sad fact is that 65% of climbers are judgemental, know it all, assholes.
The other 35% is why I still keep my doors open to all.

my worst experience...hmmm, actually falling off a 5.8 TOP ROPE!!!
and getting dropped. And not placing top 5 in a comp. and not being able to go into the chasm of doom in J tree. I could go on...next time ask about my GOOD experiences...

My biggest dissapointment is visiting Stone mountain park in Georgia and realizing what a fun time I would have climbing all those wonderful slabs and not being able to because it's forbidden.
