hurt lower back in bouldering fall

I fell off the bouldering wall in the gym, with my feet about 4-6 ft off the ground. I fell doing a 180 rotation and landed first on one leg that was fully extended, so my knee didn't bend. My back kinda "whiplashed" backwards and now I can't curve my spine forwards. Arching my back (i.e., sticking my shoulders and butt backwards) and tilting side to side feel fine, but I get pretty bad pain when I curve forwards, or try to bring my feet up (like taking off shoes) while in a sitting position.

I'm going to get it x-rayed right now but I was wondering if anyone else had done this before, and if there was anything I should mention to my doc that they might not ask directly about.

I'd give it two days before spending any money on it.

Well, too late. Doc says it's a back contusion (bruise), she thought probably bending too far one way or the other in the fall bruised some tissue. Should heal on its own (crossing my fingers). Just glad it's nothing too serious

I have a suspicion about what it could be, but I'm reluctant to say anything, because if I'm wrong, it could get worse.

If you are not better in a few days, see a good PT, or write back again, and we can give it a whirl.

mostly the urgent care doc just pressed up and down my spine to make sure I didn't fracture anything, so it honestly could be anything and yeah, I bet if it's not significantly better by Tuesday or so, it won't be better for a loooong time

p.s. bouldering sucks

Not necessarily. could be a very easy fix.

Every fall is a groundfall.

So it's probably at 80 or 85% better now (phew) but before I start climbing again, are there any stretches or what not I can do to help?

Yes. I'll send you a pm later tonite, when I have more time.

For now, don't climb until you are 100%, or very nearly so.

pm sent.

Sorry everybody, about not keeping this exchange on the public side, but I'm kind of leary about treating back problems like this one in the open, because others might try the same treatment, and could easily make themselves worse.

Seems pretty responsible to me.
Back problems are complex.
