Ha Long Bay is one of the most majestic climbing areas of the world. With over 3000 limestone karst rising from the sea. The area has several sport climbing routes and has vast potential for further development. Sport climbing in the area at present offers mainly routes above 7a ( french grade) which rise from beautiful stretches of white sandy beach.

Do you, or does anyone else, have waypoints for any of these locations? Or if not names? I may be venturing there in my 10 meter sailboat. Thanks, Graham

Eric at on the main island (Catba?) out in Halong Bay had the most comprehensive beta and was doing the most route development in the area when I was there. There were multiple locals trying to steal his guides and the government was always trying to screw him over. If you're in the area, check his business out and take one of his DWS trips. They're a blast. http://www.slopony.com/ Eric was a really good guy and his business was struggling against lots of overbearing government requirements when I was there. Josh
