Does anyone know where any free camping around zion is? BLM land would be perfect but anything free is fine.

I have seen a few campsites next to the river like 8-10 miles below Springdale, but I'm not sure if it's BLM or what. I've always stayed at the campgrounds in the park. Have fun!

I believe the Mosquito Cove "sites" are south of HWY 9 between mile markers 23 & 24. I've never been, but they look nice. Note that there is no water or toilets. Pack out everything.

Enjoy!

Yeah, it's BLM. Near mile marker 24 before you get to Rockville. it'll be on your right hand side if you're headed up river. Bring wood if you want a fire and a do the place a favor and bag yur shit or use a restroom in town...it's gotten pretty bad from what I've heard.

There's beautiful dispersed camping on Gooseberry Mesa (BLM land) which is about 5ish miles SW of Rockville. It's primarily used by mountain bikers (incredible mt. biking!!). The sites are undeveloped, but there are available pit toilets.

The BLM has brochures on the area w/ directions, etc.

Have fun!

Gooseberry does have good camping but the road up there from Rockville is a mess right now and even when it's in good shape it can be pretty hard on a vehicle. It's a longer drive too because it's all dirt road. I'd stick to Mosquito cove if you're just passing through.

@ Rainman - I don't have directions & I believe the BLM brochure (online) give directions from the Hurricane side of the mesa. I just remember that you cross the river in Rockville on a steel bridge & head up hill.

I agree w/ Climbingtrash that the drive does take a bit longer because it's on dirt...especially if it's in bad shape as he mentioned.

I'm not familiar with the other areas mentioned, but there is such much BLM land around there and everything is so beautiful it's hard to believe you could go wrong.
