Quick draw placement on harness question

Whenever I put my quick draws on my harness I put them on with the gate facing towards my body, but I was watching a climbing video and saw the people putting them with the gate facing away from their body. Is there a proper way to clip your quickdraws to your harness or is it just personal preference?

There was a thread on this a little while back, a search should find it. But really, it doesn't matter.

This is like asking is if there is a proper way to mount your toilet paper. OF COURSE THERE IS: THE FREE END OF THE TOILET PAPER SHOULD HANG OVER THE ROLL.

I trust that answered your question.

I'm doing my part to compensate for the insidious trend toward underolling, obviously.

I would have to agree with jay here, I'm actually shocked that any of you would consider racking your tp underhand

I'm an underoller, paperwise. But I prefer my biners the opposite.

WTF? Thats like racking your draws on your harness and then wearing long, untucked shirt tails over them. Fumbling underneath when you need a quick wipe is no way to poop.

I rack gates in, personally.

I don't own quickdraws, but rack my just plain draws and gear gates in.

As for TP, I like the look of the over roll hang, but am okay with it if someone goes the other way. The REAL question, though, is: Are you a TP scrunch-into-a-wad type, or a roll-into-a-flat-pile type?

I used to be a scruncher but have gone to the other side.

OP: Gates out is the way to go.

Jay: Agreed.

Happie: Scrunching is the only good way. All others fail.

Happie: Scrunching, everything else takes too much time.

Holy shit. Seriously? I can't believe that anyone would intentionally install the TP with the free end under the roll. I just figured that every time I saw a roll that way someone retarded had installed it.

Deliberate action and retardation are not mutually exclusive.

The draw thing is purely personal choice I think. I like mine gate facing out. Not sure why, it just comes off my harness easiet and is the right position to clip more often.

Look at me..I answere the question without any snide comments or remarks!

I heard that if you have cat, they are less likely to shred it if you install it the underneath method, because they can't roll it out. Anyways, ours goes under the sink. Our cats have had way too much fun, so I had had enough.

Nothing like toilet paper for going anal.

(I rack gates out. A bit easier when racking, about the same effort as gates in when grabbing them.)

I hate underolling. When I'm using other peoples bathrooms I always switch it to overhand. It is the proper way and it gives them a WTF!?!? next time they are in there.

As for draws I started gates in on my harness and now I'm pretty much all gates out. Pisses people off when you are gates out. Guess they don't like change...

I just taught my cat to use the bidet. Problem solved.
