Just wondering if there is a connection between climbing and whatever else you're into. As you may have guessed, I'm into mountain biking. I definitely see the connection. Whether your threading your way thru technical single track or picking your way up a climb, it's all about problem solving. In both cases, you must be in the moment. There is no room for noisy thoughts or distractions. Thank GAWD! MTBZEN VERTZEN ~cheers~

Mountain biking, but not the extreme type. I rather enjoy biking down old class 5 roads or well used trails.

I'm all over the place... mostly the common denominator is that they are mostly outdoor activities. Climbing, backpacking, running, road biking, motocycles, snow boarding, snowshoeing and soon backcountry skiing

Soccer. It's been an interesting transition from the adrenaline and camaraderie of being on a team, especially where scoring is so important, to the self-motivation and intrinsic rewards that climbing offers.

I like road biking and slacklining and general hiking around, but when you really gotta bust into the land of the extreme, and just rock out the baddest of the bad... There is only one sport that is NUMBER ONE one the extremeness chart. Muthafuckin' SALMONEERING.

I've been an avid cyclist for over 20 years. I've dabbled in all disciplines of cycling but currently own a cyclocross bike that I ride on road and off. I also run. I've done a couple of half marathons but I'm not very serious about it. I run when I have the time. Just getting into yoga as well. went to class last night and I'm sore as hell.

Word. I really like to paddle a canoe, flatwater or rivers, but many times when I do anything other than climb I just can't help but think "Man, this is some perfect climbing weather" or some such...

I grew up playing nothing but sports. Here is a list of sports I spent a significant amount of time playing: Basketball Soccer Beach Volleyball Tennis Softball Baseball Football Street Hockey I have also spent a significant amount of time in other activities: Weightlifting Running Road biking Mountain biking hiking Swimming When I started climbing, I stopped everything, with the exception of softball leagues in the summer and trying to run just to keep the cardio in decent shape. The only hiking I do is on the way to climbing. As in to climbing as I am now, that used to be basketball for me. In my teens to mid 20's I sometimes played 5-7 times a week. I played so much that I developed shin splints. I was somewhat of a playground legend, though, and I just couldn't bear to stop . Kind of like climbers feel pain in their fingers, shoulders, whatever, and keep on climbing. As far as that all being connected to my climbing, the actual activities don't really have anything to do with it except my own need to satisfy my craving for physical activity and adrenaline rush. Competition used to be my adrenaline rush and now climbing has replaced it. Josh

I lean heavy to individual activities, most team sports don't do it for me. I like being with other people, but I don't like relying on others to be on their game, or feeling like I've let them down if I'm not. I guess I prefer my own pace and intensity. Outdoors, just about anything will do. Indoors, only climbing and racquetball for me. Pfffft on basketball... there, I feel better!

I mountain bike off and on. Nowadays the biking is great for me because time is so short. I can go for a ride in a couple of hours, there's good riding close to home, and there's no need to line up a partner.

Alcohol. Definately a connection. After consuming alcohol I make grand and bold plans for the next days climbs. Then the next day I remember I am weak and scared. Then that evening I drink alcohol to hide my dissapointment at being so weak and scared. Then I once again become brave and make grand and bold plans for the next day....

Golf. half a day of climbing, 9 holes of Golf, and a little something later at home makes for the legendary Gunks Trifecta. Seriously, chasing a stupid white ball around green grass and trees while drinking beer is the perfect antisport after doing a few good routes.

I loved playing college ball (1 year of basketball, 2 years of football, then had to temporarily quit to go on exchange), but climbing is a whole other type of adrenaline. I can remember playing 8 hours of basketball a day, only to be followed by summer football workouts. I'm definitely not in the same shape I used to be I'm also a huge fan of ping pong. Played with my brother on rest days from the strenuous sports, got pretty damn good at it. Other hobbies that aren't sports are mostly music. I play piano, violin, guitar, mandolin, ukelele, and banjo (stringed instruments mostly). I'm not really much of an outdoorsman except for kayaking. I hate hiking and I'd rather run than bike.

Anything outdoors, but especially fishing, kayaking and hiking. Traveling too, been to all 50 states. I do lesser amounts of XC skiing, surfing, winemaking, chess, and amateur arborist. All these things work together well. When I travel I pick places I can do multiple things, and when stuck in everyday life I can do some of them right in my backyard or house.

Just climbing. I like camping, but...that's not a sport. I like hiking, as a way to get some nature photos, or if I am in an interesting place and want to look at it. But I wouldn't go on a "hiking trip,"(though if I get old and unstable on rock, I can imagine I would like it as a think to include with camping) and last year I made a friend who wanted to hike and I was like..."ummm, hummm... okay." My other things are creative pursuits and doing the creative ends of my businesses. I like photography, drawing, and writing. I worked in stained glass for about 5 years and found it something I was engrossed in - something it would make me very happy to return to. I also did quilting for a few years before I discovered climbing, and designed my own patterns. I wasn't all that good, but hadn't really spent that much time in it, compared to the glass or in climbing. But - I am getting ready to begin working on making chalk bags, and the sewing is there. But....climbing, it's not!
