I'll be in New York with my family on holiday and would love to get my first outdoor trad climbing done in somewhere as world class as Gunks. My experience climbing outdoors overall is minimal at best so I've decided to play it safe and go with a guide, could anyone recommend a good company or specific guide to contact? These two seem most promising from reading online, but I would value the opinions of Gunks locals much more. http://www.high-xposure.com/ http://www.emsclimb.com/ Thanks.

I've gone with Alpine Endeavors in The Gunks twice and was very happy with them. EMS is a good company, I've gone on a few climbs with their guides just not in the Gunks. But, they have a really good reputation. I don't know anything about high xposure.

I really like Bobby Ferrari at HighXposure. Super nice guy, really helpful to his clients.

We used EMS when we were learning. Several years ago now, but the guides we had then were always good.

if you go with EMS, request Jay Harrison. He is the best.
