Where are some good spots to climb by Lake Tahoe Ca. I know how but I need to rent gear and need a partner.

There is some good climbing in the area, but you may have some trouble finding someone who is prepared to tye in with someone who hasn't been climbing in a long while. You may also have trouble finding a place that will rent you climbing gear that isn't for use on their premises (i.e. climbing gym).

I hope you get out, though. I had a great time visiting that area a few years ago.

I was also one of the climbing instructors at Bridge Port the Marine climbing school.

lover's leap is relatively close to tahoe, as i recall. i'm sure you could find a reputable guide service there that would have gear and be able to offer you a refresher commensurate with you prior experience. the guide would also double as a partner for the day. however, this option probably won't be cheap.

I'm not sure what type of climbing they teach at Bridge Port. Do you know how to lead sport or place trad gear?

Lover's Leap is great but not really the best spot for someone who isn't 100% on making their own anchors.

It's been a long time, but my first introduction to climbing was up at LTA (Levitt Training Area) above the MWTC Bridgeport base.

This was....91 or 92, I think. I was up there with an ROTC group. At that time, (as far as I remember) the climbing consisted of top roping and rapping......and doing PT while tied off mid rap...fun fun. I have no idea what's taught up there now though.

We were required to tie Swiss seat harnesses, and got a single locker to rap/belay with using a Munter.

It might be an idea to hit up a climbing gym for a bit, get used to the gear and climbing again, and then look for a willing mentor.

Good luck! Tahoe is an awesome place to climb in the summertime.

I was thinking on the same line as Vegasclimber10 . I was in the army, infantry air assault unit . We tied SWISS SEATS,used and FIGURE EIGHT KNOT ,But rappled useing 4 Oval beeners , two on the seat gates opposed, and two horizontal above gates oppossed . Civillen cimbing is way different . I dont think either of us is trying to be a smart us here either .Just adding some input . I remember it was all the rappelling out of hellicoptors that made want to climb ,I would practice rappelling of a tower made of stone had a FIGURE 8 and man the first time I seen an ATC I was lost .lmao at that memory ,but I learned the diffrence from ARMY to CIVY climbing . Check out a ROCK GYM climbing class most are liike 50-60 bucks and will refresh your mind alot .
