For now, I just wanted some basic info to satisfy my curiosity. From what I understand, twin ropes are normally used for glacier travel. I've also heard of them being used for ice climbing. My questions are more geard towards ice climbing and how they can be used. Strictly for leading (and in pairs?) or can they be used on Top Rope for short routes?

Yes, they are generally used for leading and both clipped into each and every piece of pro. Twins are generally not used for top roping, though they certainly can be. Personally I prefer toproping on a single 10 or 10.5. Honestly I can't recall ever having seen anybody use a twin (or half) for top roping. I think you'll find most people with twins have at least one single rope and that's what they are using for top roping.

Do a search, or read the forums more carefully before posting. This topic was just addressed in a thread that is now a few threads below this one.
