DPM put up an article recently about using a bag of rice to train antagonist muscles in the hand -- extensors, etc. to prevent injury, and even to train the flexors somewhat

http://www.dpmclimbing.com/articles/view/way-iron-fist

Just wanted to see if anyone's tried this and gotten results - good or bad, or if it helped out with tendinosis/ recovery from a finger injury

Essentially the idea is you have a bucket of rice, stick your hands in it and do various movements. the rice provides the resistance.

I've just started trying it and it does seem like it should work. It certainly provides a workout. Just wanted to see if anyone else has done this.

Of course it can. Try not eating anything for a day then go climb. Then try eating rice and climbing, way better!

That seems interesting, I think I'll try it, hell, if I don't like it, I'll have a supply of rice for the next few years!

haha the sweat adds flavour!

But seriously i made a bucket(just use the cheapest rice possible) and at least in terms of creating resistance it works.

Stick your hands deep in the rice--the deeper you go the harder it is to move your fingers around. You'll feel the burn.

Go with brown rice. Gotta stay away from simple carbs in all forms.

I've had very good results using a rice-bucket-workout as a way to prevent and relieve tendonitis.

I've been doing two different exercises:
-pushing a closed fist straight down into the rice and moving my wrists front to back, side to side, and in a circular motion
-putting a closed fist into the rice and rapidly opening my fingers to push out against the rice.

It only takes a few minutes to get a good burn.
I try to do it 2 or 3 times per week.

Your dog is doing all the work, right?
He was on David Letterman doing stupid pet tricks!
