Is it possible to climb in Portland without a car or is one pretty much a necessity?

Thanks,

David

t is extremely easy to climb in Portland without a car. The local bus company is called "First" (Google on "First Dorset"). A route #1 runs every ten minutes (15 minutes Sunday and 30 minutes evenings) serving the residential areas from which it is about 15 - 20 minutes walk to most of the crags. Email me if you want more detail.

Awesome! Thanks, I guess the other question is it worth renting a crash pad there? I know there are 160 bouldering routes, but how close are they, etc? Do you know where I could rent one? I'll be coming from London Friday morning (assuming the English weather isn't completely balls).

I don't know, but I don't think there is any rental. Landings at "the Cuttings Boulderfield" can be uneven; at "The New Cuttings", "Neddyfields" and other places may be more flat. If you look on UKC or Climbfind there may be people looking for partners. Friday weather looks good; the weekend looks a bit cold and it may be worth looking where the wind is coming from and finding somewhere sheltered.

Thanks dude. I have a partner, but we haven't quite progressed her to roped climbing. I think we'll be fine, but I may invest in a crash pad anyway.

If you're looking for a partner on a particular weekend, even traveling throughout Europe, drop me a line. I'm not quite as strong as you, but long moderate trad is my bag.
