Modifying Tape Roll "?"

Google failed me on this one - and I've even been searching the forums and not finding it.

I picked up the Metolius roll of tape (not for tendon protection but for blister protection) and it's 1.5" wide...too wide to wrap around a finger.

What is the trick to modifying the roll of tape to achieve different widths? I've seen people at the gym have one roll of tape, but modified inner parts of the roll (pushed it out) so they can get skinnier widths. I've been trying to 'push out' the middle part of the roll but it's not exactly working.

Thank you and I apologize for the noob question!

You don't push the tape. Just pull about an inch out and cut it down the middle with a scissors. Once you make the cut, it should pull at that width by itself. It is probably a good thing you asked this on the internet.

Scissors?

I would recommend using a knife for this and most other cutting related tasks. Unless you want the other kids in the bouldering cave to laugh at you that is.

You should contact Metolius before making any modification to your roll of climbing tape. They can best advise you about the risks you may be unaware of.

Rock climbing is a serious and dangerous activity that should not be taken lightly. Also consider hiring a reputable guide to give you expert instruction.

Sexist! Women do it, too! Angelic

O.K., seriously now, I have never seen anyone use scissors or knife for this, people usually just rip the tape into strips with their fingers. Though I did notice that some tape is better than other in terms of ripping it.

Take a circular saw and cut the roll evenly in half.

My dad was just telling me yesterday that the internet is going to be (or already has been) the demise of the human race. I think I'll show him this post.

I actually saw this post and left it up to see what would happen. I honestly didn't think anyone would respond. I'm glad there are still some naively good-hearted folks left in the world. Smile
