I have never been bouldering before. I have been rock climbing once in jtree about 10 years ago.
I setup a little wall in my garage to mess around on, but now me and my wife want to go out and do some real climbing.
Where are the spots in San diego to try some bouldering? I see santee come up alot but still have no clue where i would be going. Id like a place that we can learn on. Maybe for the first few times somewhere less likely to have people watching. Wife would probably not try if someone else is watching.

So any advice would be great. thanks

Santee is relatively easy to find. Follow the directions here, once you park the boulders across the road will be obvious:

You can pick up this book at REI, if you want to know what you're climbing:

There are many relatively low and beginner-friendly problems at Santee. I still recommend taking a crashpad or two, and learning how to spot properly (which gym climbers rarely do).

If you don't want crowds, go on weekdays. Last time I went on a weekday (years ago) I was the only person there.

You can also try Mt. Woodson. There's some easy / low stuff, but many of the classic problems look intimidating at first.

Thanks for the info. Is rei about the best place to get climbing gear in San Diego? Maybe an online store or something. Pretty excited to get out and try this. [
