Looking to climb top rope for the weekend of July 4th. Is this possible? I've herd that Peterskill is the best place for this. True? Anyone have any experience with peterskill? How about the traps? Thanks!

Peterskill is the place to top rope in the gunks area. It's easily accessible to the top and the anchors are bolts, boulders and maybe some trees but I heard you're not supposed to use them. Some gear should be brought to backup and add to the anchors. The Trapps is basically all trad climbs and they both get very crowded on weekends.

There is very little opportunity to TR in the Trapps, as there are few climbs that are accessible from the top. Futher, it would be very poor etiquette to set up a TR and take more than one run for each party. Climbs are in demand and gang TRing is not appreciated. That said, Peterskill is the way to go. Plenty of opportunity to set up TR from above. Bring LONG runners or a static rope as there are only a few fixed anchors. You will have to use some gear, trees (NOT pitch pines) that can be some distance from the cliff edge. THey limit the number of climbers at Peterskill, so get there early if you want to be able to climb (830AM range). You can often hook up with other groups and share ropes.
