4th class with haul bag

This may be a stupid question but I may be overlooking something:
My wife and I had our first Small Wall (4 pitches)excursion on the El Cap Tree route. We stayed on our portaledge at the top of P1 and tried to get the idea of how to keep things organized and learn the process of bigwalls.
The thing is, the route was basically lateral movement to the left so we had to figure out how to haul/lower out the bag at each pitch which wasn't hard, but was really slow. Also pitch 3 was really just a 4th class walk across a ledge, but there was no way I would have just carried the pig on my back. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to transfer the pig across the 4th ledges other than hauling/lowering? Any zipline methods, etc? Or should I just suck it up and haul?

There is not one good solution to this. You need to access the situation at hand and then pick the lesser of all the evils.
You'll find this scenario on the approach to Learning Tower.

Which I found is solved by emptying the bags and carrying stuff across in 50 lb loads.

Lower it and haul it is about as fast and cluster-less as it gets, in that particular situation.

Also, in the big picture, your situation right then and there will usually dictate your technique. From the Cave on Thanksgiving Ledge on Lurking Fear, transferring many loads across is simply the only way to do it. On the "approach" to Leaning Tower, many smaller loads is the ticket. The situation on the El Cap Tree, lowering and hauling would be faster, in my opinion.
