Does anyone still climb this area? I saw the post about it being closed several years ago. Has anyone tried any since then?

Contacted the land manager of this WMA and they have stated that there is an endangered plant species and will not allow climbing.

Please DO NOT CLIMB HERE. I contact the land manager annually to see if they have reassessed the area or if they have reconsidered their ban on climbing. They are aware of what bouldering entails and I have even offered to organize a trail day to build trails and mark off certain areas where the plant is growing. So far they seem less than enthused to even consider doing this and have pretty much put their foot down.

Please do not jeopardize this area or your wallet by going climbing here. I believe they hand out a hefty fine and also am holding out hope that this area may one day be open to climbing if the climbing community goes about it the right way.

The SEC knows about this area and it has been on their radar.

Well that's a bummer to hear but thanks for the info. There is supposed to be a new gym here in Augusta soon so that will help a lot.

Yeah, I will touch base with the WMA land manager again and see if things have changed. I doubt it, but worth a shot to keep up a positive line of communication.

Yup, I'm in Athens where the first Active Climbing is. Adrian is a great guy and is excited to bring the gym yalls way!!!
