Is there anyway to build strength out of the home, without any rock walls. Obviously there is running and I would assume finger push ups but anything else.

First, thanks for all the replies. They will definetly help. What exactly is a campus board. Do you mean, on-campus posting boards. I know that sounds dumb, but I am not sure. Thanks man.

a campus board is a training tool used to build upper body strength. it is a vertical or overhanging board with thin boards screwed to it that you climb up using only hands. (think of climbing an overhanging ladder using only finger tips) i would suggest a hangboard which is like a huge climbing hold that you put over your doorway to do pullups/hangs from with your fingers in different combinations of positions. but if you're really cheap. just do hangs and pullups on door trim and doorjams. it becomes nearly habitual.

i have a power junkie hangboard (idon't know the model) but i bought mine for around fifty bones on sale at the planet rock in pontiac. they probably sell them at the planet rock in ann arbor too. its oval shaped and about twenty inches from one side to another. its nice. as for campus boards- i'd say itwould be cheapest and very easy to make your own from sanded pieces of wood (if you have no life like me)but i know that metolius makes them. you could look in their catalog or on their website for ideas or if you just want to buy them instead. ps good as hell to see more michigan climbers peace [ This Message was edited by: rockjunkie on 2003-01-21 20:36 ]

If you do overhanging routes, think about doing abdominal crunches. Cross your arms over your chest to make them harder. You might also consider making a wrist machine with a piece of dowling, a cord, and a weight. -jjf

you also should do bench dips and diamond push ups, to build the tricep. imbalanced muscles lead to injury. and drink about 1 gallon of water a day and avoid refined sugars and partially hydroginated oils.
