how does one grade a climb, route or boulder. i just don't get it. if possible use south african grading, if not it's ok thanx a mil!!

It just depends on how hard you feel the climb is. What the movement is like on it, and how long it is, how hard the holds are to hold, and so forth. There are quite a few things that factor into the grading of a route. As for the African way I have no clue what that means.

he is talking about the african grading system, like in the united states the yds is very popular. the above was a good description

yea what ratstar said. and to be able to rate a climb you have to know how hard each rating is. Meaning you have to know how hard a 5.8 is to be able top say that a new climb that you put up is 5.8. This is using the Yoesmity Decimal system

ratstar is right on track. Something else that should be brought up, is that I have noticed that no two regions seem to grade climbs the same, just like no two people seem to grade them the same. What I believe to be a 5.8, you may believe to be a 5.10. It takes somebody with extensive experience to be able to accuratley do this. but again, I have to agree with ratstar, the crux move or moves, length, quality of the hold, ect deffinatly come into play. Climb Hard, Climb Safe.
