Does anyone know a phone number or a website or something that I could find some current avy conditions at? I have plans to do Quandary Peak this weekend and just wanted to check the conditions, but do not know where to do that at......hopefully you can help.

Has there been a fatal slide on Quandary this winter, or was that another mountain? I heard something, but I can not remember where the avy occured....

stevematthys,

Here's a link to check out:
http://geosurvey.state.co.us/avalanche/

However, me being a climber who is NOT educated in avy awareness, cannot say that just by checking the conditions on this website will ensure your safety.

Proceed with caution, my friend.

Yes, there has been an avy accident early this year on Quandary. November, maybe? Something like two guys caught in a slide--one went to Denver in critical condition. Don't know the details. Check out the website, as well as make sure you know what you're doing.

Climb safely, and have fun!

-kelly.

edit: here's the url for the Quandary accident--http://geosurvey.state.co.us/avalanche/Colo_Accidents/2002-03/CO_acc_02-03.html
